Fighting game franchises like to add non-canonical guest stars to their rosters, and Mortal Kombat is no exception. Over the years, NetherRealm has brought in horror icons like Freddy Kreuger, the Predator and Alien, and Jason Voorhees to fight its array of heroes and villains. Mortal Kombat 1 is continuing that proud tradition by adding in both Invincible’s Omni-Man and Homelander from The Boys, and now Scream’s Ghostface is getting in on the action.
Earlier in the week, NetherRealm released a trailer that showed off what its newest fighter is all about. If you’re someone who balked at Ghostface using a shotgun in Scream 6, the game seems to agree, because he’s doing nothing but stab, stab, stabbing the hell out of Sub-Zero and Sindel. Whether by himself or with a fellow killer or two, his entire moveset appears to be about making sure someone gets the business end of his iconic knife. He may not have the flashiest or meanest Fatality of the bunch, but it’s definitely on theme with the Scream movies, and it helps they got Roger L. Jackson to come do the performance.
If you’re wondering how the game’s handling multiple Ghostfaces, the developers recently stated during a livestream that the two partners that help out during combos and Fatal Blows are two characters from the Black Dragon gang, codenamed the Enforcer and the Assassin, who the main Ghostface enlisted to his cause when he popped into Liu Kang’s timeline. (You can even briefly switch between them, and they’ll have different knives to tell them apart.) As for the main Ghostface? Their identity remains a mystery for now, considering several people have taken up the mantle in the sequels, but we’ll probably find out with the challenge tower ending.
Ghostface comes to Mortal Kombat 1 on November 19 for those who bought Khaos Reigns, then becomes available for everyone else the following week on November 26.
